Trace API & MCP

Web-technology detection and vendor intelligence, available as a REST API and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server.

Trace crawls websites, identifies the technologies in use, and maps them to the vendors and companies behind them. You can reach that intelligence two ways: a conventional REST API for your own services, or an MCP server that lets AI agents query it as tools.

REST API

Look up a company’s technographics, find companies using a technology or vendor, explore the partnership graph, and build target lists — all over HTTPS with an API key.

MCP server

Connect Claude, Cursor, VS Code, and other AI clients so agents can query Trace’s technographic and vendor intelligence directly as tools.

  • Company technographics — resolve any domain to its detected technology stack, firmographics, and partnership counts.
  • Reverse lookup — find every company running a given technology or vendor.
  • Partnership graph — traverse the relationships between companies and surface shared partners.
  • Target lists — create and manage saved company lists from your own criteria.

Every authenticated request carries your API key in the X-API-Key header. Look up a company by domain:

Terminal window
curl https://api.tracedata.ai/v1/companies/stripe.com \
-H "X-API-Key: $TRACE_API_KEY"

The full OpenAPI description is published at https://api.tracedata.ai/v1/openapi.json, so agents and codegen tools can discover every endpoint, parameter, and response shape automatically. For agentic workflows, the MCP server exposes the same intelligence as first-class tools — no glue code required.
